Words of Wisdom

Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:58

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Phillippians 4:6-7

One of the fun ways to celebrate a birthday is to go do something you've never done before.

This year, I've elected the purity facial experience.

When I signed up for a gym package, it came along with a complimentary body massage or purity facial. Now, the idea of a massage scares me. I don't like ppl touching my body (LOL) so I quickly opted for the facial instead. I mean, "It's just the face, right? How bad could that be?"

I was wrong. I found out that a facial typically includes the neck and upper chest areas. I was feeling the goosebumps and ticklishness when the young lady massaged me there. *ARRGGHH!!!! Eeeee eeee! Oooo ooo! Stop doing that! Ahhhh!* (you perverted ones, I know what you're thinking off. Quit it!)

I had to do my best NOT to tense up or to laugh out loud. (^_^);;;

I also found out that a facial can take quite some time. This experience was ~ 90 mins long. Good griefy, do women really spend that much time on making themselves look good? I don't have that much time!

Ok, a quick recap of the delightful stages of a basic facial:

Cleanser: This was a decent stage. It was just the dabbing of some lotion and some massaging. All lotion/oils/whatever-muck-they-put-on-yah is removed by hot damp cottons (I think, well...sure felt like it).

Scrub/Peeling: This particular lotion was a bit warm and perhaps, a little coarse to the feel. I guess it's supposed to be. Hello, it's a scrub.

Steaming: You know how some clothes have to be ironed with steam? Yeah, my face can relate to them now. After placing some damp cottons to cover my eyes, the young lady placed some equipment over my face, which sprays warm/semi-hot steam all over my face. I felt like a fresh piece of raw fish being steamed for a family dinner for the next 10 minutes.

Pore Cleansing: OK, this is my least fav. stage. Ten minutes later, she strolled in and proceeded to squeeze the pores of my nose and chin. Oh my gosh, ppl, this hurt far more than it sounds! I couldn't wait for her to finish up and had to do my best not to tense up again. I think I'll stick to my Kao Pore Pack Strips from now on.

Oil Massage: Here's where I felt my face molested the most. I could feel her fingers work in a circular motion on my cheeks, cupping up and down my chin, and finger-drilling around my eye-sockets and temples. There were even light slaps/chops on my upper cheeks. At this stage, my face felt like a piece of meat being tenderized.

Face Mask: A cooling and super thick lotion was slathered onto my face. She told me, "This is your mask. I'll be back in 10 minutes, OK?" Eh...OK. I laid down there, wondering what happened to the new age Enya sounding music that was playing in the background. Perhaps, they ran out of tracks to play. Or, something is wrong with the CD/music player. It was so silent. I twiddled my toes and many thoughts ran through my mind: Work.....family.....art projects....ZZZZZZZZZZ

Moisturizer: Yup, I fell asleep for a few minutes. By the time I resumed consciousness, the young lady had just returned and the music was back on. She resumed massaging my face with something else. I will never know what final muck was placed on my face but it sure made my face look oily. Ewww......after this round, they released me and I rushed off to dab my face dry in the washroom. I swear my face looked so oily; I could cook an egg.

On the way out, I was chatted up by a promoter of the spa/beauty packages who tried to persuade me to part ways with SGD 1000. Oh yeah, did you know that this basic facial costed SGD 85? The rest of the other "specialized' facials are +SGD 100. I'm so glad that this was a complimentary (Read: Free) treatment. :)

Conclusion: The beauty industry really thrives on convincing women that they can feel good about themselves through a variety of treatments and special products. It's a litte troubling, if not sad. Are we that desperate to look perfect?

I don't need facials, spas or massages to feel good about myself. God's Word and Blessings are pretty darn good as it is. But it can't hurt to go every now and then, just for the heck of it. LOL

Shoutout: Thanks to Aeden and ZYong for lunch today! Aeden also gave me a nice set of Perlini's Silver earrings. *hugs* I also appreciate all the phone calls, SMS and emails from family and friends. My work colleagues were also so sweet; I loved the tiramisu cake they got me last Friday. I'm truly blessed. Thanks, guys! :)

Fangirling 2007 begins...

Went to Singapore Expo for City Harvest Church service using a different route (hoping that I could save time) <--- Tried to be smart

Nope, ended up LATE again for the second time in a row. (-__-);;;;

So, I wandered around the outskirts because I totally DISLIKE walking into church late to the point that I'd rather miss the whole service. There's this sense of incompleteness that stresses me out. While browsing through the music/book store, I heard a very distinct voice during the opening worship session that was almost ending.

"Wait....I've heard of this voice before. Sounds like Martin Smith of Delirious?"

........................

(0__0) ;;;

*sneaks into the main atrium and stares*

OH.

WOW.

There you have it, Delirious? performing on the stage of Singapore Expo LIVE!!!

I almost cried because I missed the opening worship session. Seriously.

OK, what's the deal with Delirious? Just for the record, I've owned two albums for quite a while now: GLO and World Service. I was quite upset when I lost GLO during the process of relocating back to Asia and I've always liked the direction D? was moving towards in World Service.

This direction that I speak of is towards a higher worship experience without sacrificing their unique alternative rock style. I think they've been categorized as Gospel + Rock. When I was interning in the U.S, I've had awesome worship sessions in my car while driving to work. I always feel as if I'm in the midst of angels singing when I heard the audience/huge choir sing along with the band. It's a heavenly rockin' feeling (which screams irony considering that some christians think rock music is satanic). Well, I think God can use any musical instrument/style as He pleases for His Good Will. And I'm lovin' it. XD

Anyway, seeing D? perform and minister yesterday on stage suggests to me that worship comes naturally to them. There is no pressure to be someone else or to even fit into the molds of typical CCM (Contemporary Christian Music). It's their own style of worship. No fudging, yo.

Me like D? even more now. Me raise D? in list of me favorite music. Me buy D? CDs to support them: Deeper + Mission Bell

I'd like to think that I'm fangirling their music more than the band members. I suppose the only true fangirling moment was when Martin Smith and the rest walked pass my cell group in the atrium (on their way to the autographing session) and my sisters-in-Christ and I waved at him and smiled. He waved back and smiled, and I went "Eeeeeeeee!!! <3 <3 <3!" Ok, so there is some amount of fangirling there. XD I also heard some CG members briefly admit to Martin Smith being quite good-looking or having really cool hair. Heh.

I have quite a few regrets in this event: 1) I don't have a digital camera to take photos of them 2) I didn't make it to the autographing sessions, I was sealed off by the time I got to the line 3) I missed half of their live worship.

Waaaahhhhhhhh!!! *cries*

Come back to Singapore next year, Delirious! I will have my digital camera and CDs ready for your autographs! Until then, I'll continue to worship with ya in your CD recordings, pray for your success/health/spiritual blessings/family-relationships/safe journey while touring and to be encouraged to keep pushing to promote God's Word through unlikely art mediums - more webmangakaing!

Rock on, Delirious! (*0*)//

Hello 2007.......

This year's New Year countdown was certainly memorable. All I remember was grimacing in pain in my bed, and then, dozing off, only to wake up to the rumbling sounds of fireworks. I won't go into details as to what exactly happened but I just want to say that I deeply appreciate true friendship: Good buddies who remain by your side, even when you're (unintentionally) ruining the occasion. Thanks, Reta for sticking around. =)

I certainly look forward to the new year as I have many things I want to put behind me in 2006. I wasn't too sure how to begin addressing the new year without the typical cheesy "New Year Resolutions" until I read through Miss Jess's blog . Here goes:

**************************************
#1) Think of at least 3 major succeses - including work, personal & team effort

Work: Securing a dream job in Asia, near family and friends
Personal: Relocating back to Asia with little casualties
Team: Integrating KingdomCome with Psycho Ann's Psychoteers website to create TheProject --> http://theproject.us (woohoo!)

#2) Reflect on 2 disappointments. If they were unavoidable, what did you learnt? Can any issues be resolved & if so, what steps can you take?

USA: Immigration made hiring so difficult.
Relationship: Learnt how to let go the hard way

Once again, I learnt how to surrender to God and to remain flexible to His Plan. It hurts but each day I'm more convinced that I've made the right decision.

#3) What goals would you like to achieve in 2007 - work and personal? Think big, if money was no object, what would you do? Is there a way to take small steps to make this dream possible?

Work: Establishing my position by fully developing the skills set it calls for
Personal: 1) Master Chinese as a language 2) Complete/Start more webmanga (Go TheProject team! XD)

If money wasn't an object, I would go to art school. XD But for time being, this year I shall practice more digital coloring!

#4) Think of the important ppl in your life. Have you spent enough time communicating with them?

This is part of a resolution for 2007. Ever since I came home, I've improved tremendously in this area and am thoroughly enjoying this, especially with family. Looking forward to more Twilight Imperialism and Mah-jong, koko. *wink wink*

#5) List the priorities in your life. Have you given each of those the attention they deserve? If not, what's got in the way? Focus on ways to remove such distractions from your life. You can then spend time with those you really want to be with, doing the things you love.

For the last few years, what got in the way was geographical distance. Well, I'm back now. But I confess that I don't do well with remembering birthdays. This year, I'm jotting them down my calendars. XD

*************************************

Well, there you have it, some of my New Year's resolutions. Two other items that come to mind would be 1) Exercise 2) Legalize my Mp3s and computer programs as much as possible. Friends, if you wanna help me with #2, I'll be ever so grateful. LOL
