Words of Wisdom

Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:58

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Phillippians 4:6-7

Travel 2007 Wrapup

Woa, 2007 is almost gone. Many things happened but among the most significant change this year is the amount of travelling I did. This year alone, I've hopped over to China, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, and Taiwan (ok, it's technically China but ah never mind...). How exciting! XD

I thank God for the safe trips, pleasant experiences and rare opportunities to see the world. It's something I never quite wished for but now that I'm experiencing it, I'm really happy and grateful.
With that said, I'll attempt a swift summary on the last few trips I made:

Starting first with Mumbay/Mumbai/Bombay: India

Whose bright idea was it to rename the city anyway? I suppose, I could talk about the poor versus rich disparity and how messed up some parts of the city are but nah....skip it. I'll just focus on interesting stuff like this cute form of transportation. I present you the tutup!

Next, I'll just post pics of some food I had. I'll have to come back and edit this post since I can't remember the names of each dish. Oh dear....

Photobucket Photobucket

You would think that you'll eat this alone....but no, you're supposed to stick it in between a bun. It's almost like a fried potato bun.

Photobucket Photobucket

As for this dish, you're supposed to pick up the round crispy bit, make a hole it, stuff it with all sorts of eh....stuffings and then, pop the whole thing into your mouth. Interesting, huh?

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Just a few more dishes, which I won't really comment since they're like hand food/appetizer-type foods.

Photobucket

But I must comment that there is a huge reliance on spices as breath fresheners. See this thing? Yeah, breath fresheners. (0__0) I want my mint!

More to come!

Politics....

is something I typically stayed away because I know little of the mechanics behind the government and is completely driven by imperfect humans.

Recently, a poll on CAA made me wonder where I stand in the political spectrum, at least where the U.S. system is concerned. I worked on a quiz this morning just to have a better understanding, keeping in mind that quizzes like this shouldn't be taken too seriously. Anyway, for the results....

For 64 % you are: You are a Centrist. You vote according to the problems the world is currently facing. You would vote democrat or republican.

Centrists…
  • Are guided more by practical considerations than ideological vision.
  • Believe US power is crucial to successful diplomacy - and vice versa.
  • Don't want US policy options unduly limited by world opinion or ethical considerations.
  • Believe strong alliances are important to US interests.
  • Weigh the political costs of foreign action
  • Believe foreign intervention must be dictated by compelling national interest.
Historical Centrist: President Dwight D. Eisenhower

Modern Centrist: Secretary of State Colin Powell

In light of the upcoming Malaysian elections this January 2008, I don't have much say. I mean, I'm not even registered as a voter. (^_^);; I won't vote this round but in the next elections, I'll be ready.

And yeah, I'll get those travel photos on my blog when I'm back in Singapore.

It's Christmas time and time to reflect on 2007....

It also means it's spring cleaning time - including my email inboxs(s). You know, one of those FWD emails? It made me wonder how much of it is true.

A Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways
, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge but less judgment, more experts yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Don't know if this George person really wrote this but it's not bad food for thought.
