The horrendous things occurring in New Orleans seem to serve as a grim reminder that humans are alike all over the world, regardless of their ethnic background or personal values. When threatened with death and lost in desperation, humans naturally return to their selfish and aggressive ways. All moral conscience and religious teachings are flung out the window.

What a tragedy and humbling event for the United States. The U.S. learns that she is not immune to the horrible things that we typically hear happening in other 'unfortunate' countries all over the world. It can be an eye-opener to some, to know that people in the U.S. are no different from those all over the world. Just as God has intended it to be.

Do pray for the fate of New Orleans. I feel exceptionally sad over this tragedy since I was at that location two months ago for a national convention. I can't help feeling moved when I see images of places I used to walked around and visited, are now under depths of water such as the Canal Street and the Convention Center. The place that used to be a Mardi Gras base has now turned into a watery graveyard and warland for the poor and desperate.

Some Christians believe that this piece of land is facing the wrath of God. Admittedly, New Orleans is known for sexual immorality and such. In a way, some see this as an act of cleansing and retribution. I can't say that I entirely agree with this point of view. It seems rather cold and arrogant to claim that people in a certain location are more sinful than yourself. If God had no love and mercy for us, not a single location on earth would survive His Wrath. Be thankful that God loves us.

Rather than trying to figure out why this event has happened, perhaps it's better to focus on what we can do about it now. May God's Spirit be in the hearts of men as they struggle in pain and desperation, May help and support reach the land just in time and that many lives are changed for the better in the aftermath.
